Cover of Julian Germain’s Classroom Projects book
Julian Germain’s camera casts an eye on classrooms across the world, showing pupils of different ages in the environment that will shape their lives forever
He began in 2004 in the North East of England, but photographer Julian Germain’s Classroom Projects has grown to encompass the world.
Germain shoots from the same perspective, the camera as a fixed point while the faces and uniforms of the children changes. The environment remains unvarying, education has a similar sense of being closed-in, whether you are a schoolkid in Peru or Nigeria.
The Future is Ours, Classroom Portraits, 2004 – 2012, shows at the Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam, June 2 – September 2, 2012
The book, designed by Why Not Associates is out now. Published by Prestel.
